Archives New Zealand’s Wellington building (Mulgrave Street) re-opens to the public on Tuesday 24 January 2017.
The reading room service has been closed whilst we recovered from the effects of the November 2016 earthquake and aftershocks. The building suffered some non-structural damage and some of our repository shelving was damaged, making access to some records unsafe for staff. No archive material was damaged as a result of the quakes.
Remedial work to the non-structural damage has been completed. However, access to some areas of the repository is restricted as work is still underway, but if any material you wish to see is unavailable we will let you know as soon as possible. If you had an order put on hold, this material will need to be re-ordered.
We are grateful for the patience and forbearance that our customers have shown during this period of closure.
