Chief Archivist Update

Thank you for all the messages of support following last week's earthquake. All of our Archives New Zealand staff are safe and well. My number one concern is staff wellbeing which is why we evacuated our building as a precautionary measure on Thursday 17 November. The building remains closed while we await further engineering assessments.

I also want to take the opportunity to confirm that the treasures of national significance, currently housed in the Constitution Room, are safe. The building systems that monitor the Constitution Room are working normally.

The holdings in other parts of the repository are largely unaffected too, and building systems are fully operational.

We will update you on progress.
